I am tentatively exploring commissioning some background art for some promotional materials I want to put together for conventions in 2017. I am the author of FLOOR 21, a winner in the Scout competition held by Amazon and published through their Scout label. I am a full time author and writer with previous experience working with artists from Deviantart. I tend to have ongoing relationships with the people I work with and I most recently worked with Tjota in the production of two characters from FLOOR 21.
This time, however, I am looking for an artist to produce at least one world scene in the immediate and potentially more in the future. The setting of the story takes place in an apartment tower, however, the tower is conceptually closer to the size and scope of Peach Trees (see: Dredd movie) than a standard apartment tower and dwarfs the nearby landscape. The area around the Tower itself consists of either destroyed, smaller skyscrapers, or areas infested with a biological disease known as the Creep.
I'm putting this forward in the forum board with no guarantees of a commission offer but in the hopes that I can make one, should there be a suitable pairing between the artist's work and my visual conceptions of the world I wish to see brought to life.
Updated: I would like to clarify that this will be a paid assignment. I have paid my previous artists and as a professional writer myself, would never work for free. I am not here posting a set price, and would rather negotiate that between myself and the artist based on my budget and their own pricing sheet. I will say that in the past that I have paid from the low to high hundreds for character work. Given that this is my first request for something more akin to background or scene work, I am unsure on the price in general. Again, that will be left between the artist and myself. I have also added the character piece work performed by Tjota to provide stylistic guidance and general mood for the expected work produced. Conceptually, I tend to have very strong opinions on the art direction for my work, and tend to contribute ideas with that regard.
